PRESS RELEASE

Introducing Smithie for Mayor NYC 2013

26th of May, 2013

Manhattan, New York city

CITY ARTIST CONTESTS FOR MAYOR CITY OF NEW YORK, 2013

Born Abiodun Oladewa, Abiodun or “Abbey” Laurel-Smith, a New Yorker, an award winning painter, a poet and a defense industry operative declares his candidature as an Independent candidate for the office of the MAYOR NYC 2013.

Backed by the Friends of Smithies New York, a state and city registered single candidate campaign committee, Smithie is prepped ready to bring a fresh outlook to the political climate of the city of New York. “The politics and the policies once and for all” he said.

“New York city hall and it’s public policies” he claimed, “needed shaped and sharpened further for the benefit of our future needs. The way things are leaning now, it is rather pointless hedging our future on elected officials who are so used to doing same thing over and over again – just because it works and because it is the only tested means. No. Not anymore. Our diversity is our strength and time is right to engage this diversity.”

Well, we the people as Friends of Smithies Newyork believe this to be true. We believe the nature of our survival in a digitally challenged environment demand we prepare the city to meet future standards – if not set it. We share Smithie’s opinion that “New Yorkers and the businesses community will trust in city officials if it’s rules, regulations and the weight of government power is seen as balanced, forward looking and caring rather than distant, old fashioned and protecting partisan interests.”

It is in this light that we agree and accept the facts: that the city of New York deserve a new outlook. That only an independent candidate can bring this new outlook about. And since our candidate is bent on affecting this change by serving public interest through the ballot box, we the people, support him all the way. We hope the rest of New York give him the decisive victory he need at the polls – for our future benefit.

Campaign launch, press conference and house party dates will be updated soon.

Personal statement

I have decide to stand for election because I believe in the city. I believe in the different people that made the city of New York what it is today. I love the different communities and the history of how they came to being – the city, the big apple.

As an advocate of now and technologically enhanced living, I would love to see the people of New York use the power of new to enrich their lives, juice up their neighborhood, and place their communities at the fore front of living the good life.

A vote for me is an investment in your future. It is your voice and it is also for your community.

Campaign statement

We live in a unique city that is known all over the world for it’s modernity and for an unrivaled cosmopolitanism. It is indeed one of the greatest achievement of mankind in the last century. But it saddens me to see that amongst this opulent landmark, lies disturbing images of homelessness, falling school standard, noise, bad behavior and a general sense of intolerance for the new.

We ignore a clogged-up judicial system, thinking every delay is normal. We think it’s game when our publicly elected officials put their respective parties before the electorate – all at the expense of the tax paying public. How fair is this? We never asked nor care.

Cost of living and rent have have forced industries out of the city. Research entities and others are not coming anymore – leaving us with one of the highest number of joblessness rate in the country.

The list is endless. But my bone of contention is how much more can we the people take? How much – for your voice, your future and your community?
