A baby in a womb is an immigrant

housed in a body. Will you protect it

for being a baby or abort it

for being an immigrant?

Being an immigrant, I want to protect it,

but my love for it is dampened a bit.

I cannot be seen to give it the strength

it needs to grow as an infant.

Being a baby, I cared for it,

but such an act is tethered on a fact that

these tiny tots are like immigrants –

not free from hateful lots in our midst.

Like a story cut short, the right

of the unborn, I leave to rest on the 4th.
