Yes, if the coup succeeds, political relations with the EU might be strained for a while. EU will demand a transition back to a democratically elected government – by the ballot.

But if the coup plotters are as smooth as Pakistani military leaders, then EU will have no option than to accept a joint civilian/military leadership template from Turkey.

But EU is all about trade, so i see no drastic change. Supplies and logistics have been arranged in advance.

If the coup fails, then Erdogan will from now on be made to answer a few questions by the EU. Safety, transit and security of supplies overland in Turkey is now at stake.
